It is important that teachers keep that in mind throughout the entirety of the planning, prepping, and execution of lessons. Teachers must be conscious of students and their multiple abilities and aware of student's individual needs so that all students feel comfortable and are learning in the most effective way. |

The competent teacher structures a safe and healthy learning environment that facilitates cultural and linguistic responsiveness, emotional well-being, self-efficacy, positive social interaction, mutual respect, active engagement, academic risk-taking, self-motivation, and personal goal-setting.

Art is a subject that combines feeling with content. It is not always easy to channel feelings and and to express those feelings comfortably. This is why creating a safe and healthy learning environment is so important. Students should feel as though they can express themselves fully and will not be judged in the art classroom. Sometimes the art classroom is the only classroom that students feel like they can thrive in so it is the duty of the teacher to ensure that the classroom cultivates a feeling of belonging, security, and freedom.

An art educator does not just simply teach art. There is more to offer and there should be more to offer to students. In an art classroom an art teacher is teaching students about life, the world, themselves etc.. With curriculum that is relevant and derived from the students, an art teacher can enlighten students and help guide them to think divergently through varied methods so that the content remains exciting and interesting. |

Reading, writing, and oral communication skills should naturally be embedded into the curriculum to help students strengthen these vital educational and life skills. Teachers should display these skills to students and act as a role model so students can recognize their importance and see them at work in everyday life. Viewing, making, discussing and reflecting on art can all be ways to foster the building of these skills. |

The competent teacher understands and uses appropriate formative and summative assessments for determining student needs, monitoring student progress, measuring student growth, and evaluating student outcomes. For example, portfolios allow teachers to see student artistic development conceptually and technically while process-folios allow teachers to see the ideas and sketch work behind the final product.

This type of collaboration can be modeled to students so that they can see the benefits of working together and sharing knowledge. This is important because...
Teachers must be leaders whether they are inside or outside of the classroom. This is their professional responsibility to the community that they are a part of. They hold the special role of educating the youth within that community. Teachers are role models and should always be advocating for the arts to not only show the importance of the arts but also to show their passion for what they teach. This strengthens the meaning behind what they do. Being an educator goes far beyond the classroom. They are counted on within the community to be respectful model citizens. |
