About Alexis Gruber
Alexis Gruber is originally from Carpentersville, Illinois. She currently resides in Hampshire, IL with her loving mother, dog, cat, and hedgehog. While Illinois is peaceful and has been her home since she was born, Alexis enjoys the warm and freeing west coast as her wonderful father and second home are located in San Diego, California.
All throughout Alexis' life, the arts of multiple facets have played an influential role and have all contributed to the woman that she is today. The performing parts such as theatre, choir, and orchestra were all a part of her upbringing. It was not until college that she became invested in the visual arts. A random decision to take an art studio class as a break from core classes in her collegiate schedule helped her discover her passion for the visual arts and gave her the clarity that she needed in regards to picking a career path. Alexis has always wanted to be a teacher. She would get off the school bus and immediately walk into her very own classroom she built in the spare bedroom of her grandparents’ house. This classroom had everything from an overhead projector to pocket charts that hung, covering the walls. It was not until that art class in college that she realized what she wanted to teach and why she wanted to teach it. Alexis has found that paint and other marks that she makes from other various materials say what she cannot find words for. It is important for Alexis to express that there are no wrong answers in art. There is not one way to make art. She hopes that she can inspire and encourage future students to express their own unique thoughts, feelings, and ideas through the visual arts in a way that satisfies them. The visual arts saved Alexis. She hopes that she can channel the visual arts to help students find their voice and express their opinion in a unique and creative way. The arts promote divergent thinking. It challenges the human mind to come up with original ideas and solutions to problems. These are the kinds of minds that are needed in the world today and Alexis hopes that she can foster this philosophy. |
